Abacus ALS named as Telstra Queensland Business of the Year

IVD Australia founding member, Abacus ALS, was named as Telstra Queensland Business of the Year for 2010 after taking out the Panasonic Australia Queensland Small Business Award on July 13th 2010.

This is an outstanding effort by Bruce Evans and his team at Abacus ALS and is due to the ongoing growth that they have achieved since the formation of Abacus Diagnostics by Bruce in 1998 and follows on from the merger of Abacus Diagnostics and Australian Laboratory Services in 2007 to form Abacus ALS. This growth, along with their continued focus on customer service, procurement and employee engagement has resulted in the Company being recognised as Queensland's Business of the Year. Abacus ALS will now compete at the National Awards looking to be named as Australian Business of the Year.

IVD Australia offers its congratulations to Abacus ALS, Bruce and his team on this fantastic award.

Government announces Position Papers on Promotion and Advertising of Therapeutic Goods

The Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon Mark Butler MP, has released a Position Paper on the Promotion of Therapeutic Goods. This is due to the concerns that apparently exist in the community regarding the effectiveness of the self-regulatory codes governing the promotion of therapeutic goods to healthcare professionals. Mr Butler has proposed that industry strengthens and standardises their self-regulation through the development of consistent industry codes incorporating a set of high level principles.

IVD Australia is currently participating in an Industry Working Group to develop these principles which is expected to report by the end of 2010. IVD Australia has submitted a comment on the Position paper which may be downloaded here

He has also released a Consultation Paper on Advertising Therapeutic Goods in Australia. IVD Australia has made a submission on the Consultation Paper which is available for download here
